Hail can fall during storms and can end up damaging things such as your cars and home. Damage from hail can increase the likelihood for water damage to your property too.
It is best to keep areas around your home prepared - before a storm hits. This entails keeping nearby trees trimmed, getting problems, including minor ones, to your home fixed and closely watching the weather.
If you get caught in the middle of a hailstorm when it hits, immediately go indoors. Once you are safely inside, make sure you close any drapes or blinds on windows to block any broken glass from hurting you.
If possible, head to areas underground, such as a basement. If you are outside and can't find a nearby building, lie down on the ground, where it is flat, and put your hands over your head to protect from the falling hail.
Once the storm has passed, check your property for any damage. If a vehicle of yours contains any damage that you would like to make a claim for, immediately contact your insurance company.
Be sure to check for damage to your roof and siding as well and get them fixed at your first opportunity.
Most importantly, be safe because a storm can pop up at any time!
