A campin' we will go!

It's almost Labor Day weekend... get ready to see campers galore on the highway! Camping is a fun getaway for many people. However, as always, it's important to keep you and your family safe! Here are a few quick tips for a fun and safe weekend camping trip.

Don't just eat it!

One of the simplest camping tips can be done before the trip even starts; preparing food! Eating contaminated food increases your risk of catching certain diseases. To ensure your food is safe, follow these steps:
  • Always pack food in tight, waterproof containers
  • Wash your hands frequently. If you do not have access to a sink, use hand sanitizer instead!
  • Make sure to separate raw and cooked foods.

Row, row, row your boat!

Many people go camping to relax, however it's still important to get some physical activity in too! Many campgrounds have playgrounds, lakes, and bike trails for their visitors to enjoy. If you're in the woods, hiking or even just walking are great ways to enjoy your vacation while getting some exercise!

Shoo Fly! Don't bother me!

Unfortunately, bugs are everywhere, especially if you are camping in the woods! Some insects carry diseases that can be detrimental to our health. One way to help prevent bug bites is to apply insect repellent. Make sure you buy repellent with DEET in it! Another way to prevent bug bites is by wearing long sleeve shirts and long pants. Although they may not seem as comfortable, they sure beat getting bit by a tick!

Here comes the sun!

Protecting yourself from the sun is more than just wearing sunglasses! It is important to also apply sunscreen and wear a hat. If you plan on being out during midday, seek out shade as much as possible and also wear light colored clothing.

The Campers new clothes.

Mother Nature can be extremely unpredictable! That's why clothing is so important! Make sure to not only pack shorts and swimsuits, but to also pack rain jackets, sweatshirts, and good shoes. While you may feel tight on packing space, clothing can play a large role in survival.

Here is a great packing list!

Golden Slumber.

Sleep is essential no matter where we are. However, many people find it difficult to sleep while camping. Especially if you're staying in a tent! One of the easiest ways to get sleep is to make sure you have the right sleeping bag! During the warmer months you'll want a lightweight sleeping bag. It's also important to get a "mummy" style sleeping bag that wraps up your entire body. This helps preserve your body heat. Many campers also choose to place a small cot or pad underneath them while sleeping. Pinterest has a lot of great tips for a more comfortable camping experience.
